Viking Golf Southport
At Fabled, our job is to turn big ideas into incredible experiences. So, when Norman Wallis came up with the original concept for a Viking-themed mini golf course in Southport, we instantly felt the spark!
Southport might be best known for its seaside attractions, but did you know it also has a fascinating Viking past? The local place names and archaeological finds hint at a rich Norse history. So what better way to celebrate this than an immersive adventure golf that transports you back to the Viking age?
Designing Viking Golf Southport was both a creative challenge and a labour of love. We started off by researching every Viking detail we could get our hands on, (luckily Sandy already had a great base of knowledge after designing the Jorvik Viking Centre back in 2003) and spent countless hours sketching, planning, and imagining exactly how visitors would feel the moment they set foot on the course.
Our Four Viking Worlds
Boat Yard & Fisherman’s Hut
Right off the bat, we wanted you to feel like you’ve stumbled into a real Viking settlement by the sea. Imagine the clank of tools, the creak of wooden ships, and the smell of fresh timber as these mighty vessels get prepped for the next big voyage.
Marshland
Next, brace yourself for the Marshland—a rugged area that reminds you Vikings weren’t just sailors, they were explorers on land, too. Here, the terrain has that mysterious vibe that makes you wonder what’s lurking just around the bend.
The Village
This might be our favourite section. We recreated Viking homes—think thatched roofs, carved doorways, and all the little touches that make you feel like you’re peeking into someone’s daily life a thousand years ago.
Market Place & 18th Hole
Finally, you enter the bustling Market Place, where traders and farmers come together. The energy picks up here as you putt your way through stalls and end your quest on the 18th hole, with a finishing shot fit for a Norse hero.
We knew from day one that this had to be a family-friendly spot—after all, we want kids (and adults!) of all ages to enjoy themselves. On top of the epic Viking theming, you’ll also find:
